Reflection

After much contemplation and intense pondering, the image that I feel suits my wide scope best is a traffic light. Just like the journey and path of my life, a light can tell one to go, slow down, or stop. In 8th grade when I was discovering my love for the English language, as described in my career field/ major page, I was approaching a green light. This green light was leading me in a direction towards my future hopes and dreams for writing and design. As I advanced towards this green light, there were many yellow lights along the way. The struggle and time it took to become confident in my own writing took place on a long road eventually leading to a well-deserved, highly anticipated green light. Throughout my youth, I truly thought there was a HUGE red light congesting a busy intersection. Not having a television in my bedroom seemed as if my childhood was hindered. However, later in life I realized that not having a television in my bedroom led me to develop useful and advantageous study techniques, greeting me with a green light leading me towards my future. This path of changing traffic lights led famous individuals as discussed in my community page to accomplishing their goals. For Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., metaphorically, he ran a red light holding him back as he was a prominent leader in the African American Civil Rights movement.

The image of a changing traffic light reveals that the world is filled with opportunity, impediment, and ultimate achievement. Throughout life, there are many set backs to one achieving their goals, represented by a yellow or red light. This image tells me that in a matter of seconds, ones hopes and dreams can be shattered by the sight of a yellow or red light, inhibiting accomplishment. However, a red to green changing light induces confident aspirations. A traffic light shows that suffering and fruition are human nature and accompany the unforeseen journey of life.
I feel that one should live his or her life with an open mind and an open heart. Yellow and red lights are minor setbacks that are quickly transitioned to a green light of encouragement to move forward. I believe that the green lights are always coming and one should never give up based on the unavoidable encumbrance of a yellow or red light. No matter what path you take, your journey will lead you to a green light towards your future. Everything happens for a reason, therefore, one should embrace the setbacks to his or her future by living in the moment.
